Fitness Philosophy

16th October 2015

You’ve heard it all before, but just for the record one more time; you have to be active to lead a happy, healthy life! What is the TMA fitness philosophy and why do we want you to keep fit?

So you’ve heard it all before, but just for the record one more time: You have to be active to lead a happy, healthy life!

It all starts with being active.  We believe that fitness fosters a connection with your body. If you feel connected to your body, you start to honour it more. You feel great, your body functions more efficiently and you think more clearly.  Here in our first MOVE post, we are going to outline our fitness philosophy.

We believe that fitness is about so much more than burning calories and looking good. We believe that there is no such thing as a “perfect” body – this is highly subjective anyway.   We will share with you the information we have gathered from our experience as well as the latest information available to help you make the best of your body whatever that means to you.

An active life slashes your risk for almost every major illness

We think that fitness is far more than that though. We believe it is essential for both emotional and physical stamina, and for overall health and wellbeing. It is about feeling great on the inside as much as the outside. Being active and working up a sweat is as important for your mind and soul as it is for your body.  The links between an active life, with cognitive function, sleep quality and lower risks of mental illness are scientifically proven.  As to the more obviously physical aspects of health: an active life slashes your risk for almost every major illness and health condition, including cancer and diabetes.

We believe that integrating fitness into your life is the only major way you can slow most of the negative effects of the human body’s ageing process, including the slowing of metabolism, weakening of bones, memory and problem solving ability, and hormonal changes. Hormones are a huge factor, especially for women. The hormones responsible for all youth enhancing qualities including healthy skin tone, strong lean muscle, robust energy and sex drive can decline dramatically in a sedentary lifestyle.

We believe in making fitness fun!

We believe effort is as important as ability. Even if you don’t think you can do it, work towards it and one day you will be able to do all sorts of things you didn’t think you could do! We believe that challenging yourself and setting yourself fitness goals and targets is a great way to keep you motivated.

We believe in making fitness fun!   Passion and dedication is required to stick to any fitness regimen in order to see results. There won’t be any long term dedication to anything you don’t enjoy. As with nutrition, we believe in balance and consistency.  Just as we don’t believe in fads and diets, we don’t believe in gruelling fitness frenzies  – they will not last and you will end up hating working out, and hating yourself for falling off the wagon.

We believe that it isn’t necessarily about the hours you put in, but what you put into the hours.  We want to share our tips on what will make your fitness time most effective and efficient.

We hope to inspire you to make the best of your body!

We believe that being committed to a healthy fit lifestyle doesn’t involve living and breathing macros and deadlift pbs and hours of gym time if that isn’t your thing.  You can be just as healthy having a relaxed “every little helps” attitude.   We believe in sports as much as gyms. We believe it is an important personal responsibility to find out what kind of fitness fits in with your own lifestyle to make it an active lifestyle.

We are really excited to share with you some fitness tips over the MOVE section of the blog.  As always on this site, our aim is that you learn something useful from every post. We hope to save your time and teach you how to use it most productively, not to waste it. We hope to inspire you to make the best of your body!
